Arachova

Arachova is undoubtedly the queen of Parnassos. It is built in an amphitheatric way and it spreads magnificently to the south hillsides of Parnassus, at an altitude of 960 meters, ending up at a cliff where Pleistos river flows.

Sights in Arachova

Lakka Square:The ultimate hot spot in Arachova could not have been other than its central paved square, with the dozens stores and the beautiful decoration.

Egarsios – Agios Georgios: It’s really worth climbing the steps (Egarsios) that start from the central road, in order to reach the Holy Church of Agios Georgios where you can marvel the beautiful view. In honor of Agios Georgios, every year the popular Festival is carried out.

Arachova’s Clock: The distinguishing feature of Arachova is the sheer rock with the clock, which dates back to the beginnings of the 18th century. The rock on which it was built was used as a natural refrigerator for the preservation of cheeses.

Next to the clock rock, the Holy Church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary and the old Elementary School which now operates as the Ethnographic Museum of Arachova.

Gastronomy – Traditional products

At Arachova’s taverns and restaurants you can taste local meats such as the famous mutton kontosouvli and kokoretsi, traditional homemade pies, homemade taglierini and trahanas. And of course, you will find everywhere the famous cheese Arachova’s formaela, in various forms. Formaela has been registered in the European Union as a protected designation of origin.
